The project Clean Up reflects thoughts and visions concerning Agenda 21, based
on the United Nations conference on environment and development in Rio -92.
The project is an example of how we might contribute to a sustainable development,
and how new forces can be drawn into the work, creating local agendas (LA21).
Project target
Through the project Clean Up we want to work across the borders to create
an understanding of environmental problems, which increasingly will influence
our lives.
Children
and young people might use the project Clean Up to demand that grownups, and
especially the MAN, do something about the problems - clean up the environmental
problems they have created.
Project material
The project material consists of a musical manuscript named Clean Up. A CD
with demo songs and sing-along is enclosed. An instructor's pamphlet is to
be made.
Harald Saetervoll is the composer and author of the musical.
The performance
In the performance we meet Rebecca, the daughter of Geir Sture. The theme
of the play puts the question: Shall the grown-up generation continue to pollute
the earth, water, air and oceans? Is the next generation going to get the
bill for cleaning up? Or should the grownups clean up now?
The manuscript is made in a version of 35 minutes. The manuscripts might be
adapted to local circumstances.
The project is initiated by "Kulturprosjektet på Grensen", Harald Sætervoll and Martin Skjefstad.

Cooperation
The theme and message is border-crossing, and as Agenda 21 encourages cooperation, the Clean Up project lays stress
on cooperation between organizations, departments, sectors within the municipalities,
regions and countries.
How to work with the project in the primary school
Classes in the middle level, guided by their main teacher and music teacher,
use one - two hours each week in 2.5 - 3 months to learn speeches and five
songs. In the same period the class works with local environmental issues.
With the assistance of professional expertise, they make suggestions on items
to a Local Agenda 21. The mayor is asked to invite the city council to the
first night performance, and the items for a Local Agenda are presented to
the mayor, members of city council and audience.
